Why Is My Company Not Showing Up to AI Agents?

Supplier Management
Updated September 8, 2026

Usually for one of three reasons, and all three are invisible in a normal browser. Your capabilities are written in PDFs or images rather than in HTML text, so the agent finds nothing to match. Your only contact is a web form or a phone number, so the agent has no address to send a request to and drops you. Or your pages render only with JavaScript, so a crawler receives an empty shell. Any one of these is enough.

Why This Is Hard to Notice

The failure leaves no trace. A buyer's agent researches public pages, shortlists the companies it can read and reach, and sends requests to them. A supplier that was dropped receives nothing and sees nothing. The RFQ went to a competitor whose site was readable, and the dropped supplier never learns it existed. Forrester expects 20% of B2B sellers to face agent-led quote negotiations in 2026, so the volume of invisible losses is growing.

How to Diagnose It

Test your site the way an agent experiences it, not the way a visitor does.

  1. Fetch a capabilities page without a browser. Use a command-line tool or a plain HTTP fetch and read the raw response. If your processes, materials and certifications are not in that text, the agent does not see them.
  2. Search the contact page source for an @ sign. If the address is an image, or the only route is a form, there is nothing for the agent to write to.
  3. Read your robots.txt. A blanket disallow for AI user agents, added in 2024 to stop scraping, now hides you from your own buyers' agents.
  4. Check dates and identity. A newest news item from 2022, an expired certificate, or a company name that differs between your site, LinkedIn and directory listings all mark you as a company that may not answer.
  5. Look for capability that exists only in a PDF. Brochures are fine as downloads; they fail as the sole copy of what you do.

How to Fix It

In order of impact: put a plain-text email address on a crawlable page and in your Organization schema; write capabilities, materials, regions and certifications as HTML text in the words buyers use; make sure pages are server-rendered or prerendered and that AI crawlers are allowed; keep dates current and identity consistent. Most of this is an afternoon's work. The full checklist with five-minute tests is in the guide to how to be found by AI buying agents.

How Buyer24 Helps

Buyer24's Supplier Agent searches the web for suppliers matching a buyer's brief and drops any candidate without a reachable public email, because an RFQ nobody opens is wasted. A readable site with a plain-text contact is what puts a supplier on that shortlist; there is no directory to apply to. How the agents work →

FAQ

My site ranks well on Google. Why would an agent miss it?

Ranking and readability are different tests. Google renders JavaScript and reads images with vision models; a procurement agent doing a quick research pass often works from the raw HTML and moves on. A page can rank on Google and still present an agent with nothing it can match or act on.

Is a contact form really a problem?

For an agent, yes. Its next action is to send a request for quote by email, and a form is not an address. Forms also often carry CAPTCHAs or require account creation. Keep the form for humans if you like, but publish a plain-text mailbox beside it.

How long does it take to become visible again?

Fixes to the site are visible on the next research pass, which for an active buyer can be the same week. Agents also re-audit existing records over time, so a corrected site is picked up when the record is refreshed rather than waiting for a new search.
